Relation with the martyr Hasheminezhad:

At the age of twenty, ayatollah Abtahi had an extraordinary intelligent friend named Sheikh Ali Faridatol Islam Kashani who was also the intimate friend of the late martyr Sayyed Abdolkarim Hasheminezhad. (A brief on ayatollah Faridatol Islam Kashani says that at the age of nine, he was honored to meet his living Imam (p.b.u.h) and took much blessings. At the age of eleven, he recited poems concerning Arab’s grammar (Nahv) in front of Alfiyeh ibne Maalik and says, “این ابن مالک لینظرن ما نظمته فیترکن ما نظما “. He got the degree in Jurisprudence at the age of twenty and was admired by the jurists. At the age of 24 and in his last meeting with his infallible living Imam(p.b.u.h), Imam Mahdi states, “peace be upon you O’ the man of the martyrs” (و علیک السلام یا شیخ الشهداء ). After that, in one of the north villages in Roodsar that he had been invited, he died at the time of prayer and in Sajdah (prostration). May God bless his soul!). Ayatollah Abtahi has given a brief account on the virtue of this man in the book “The soul’s ascension”. After his departure, ayatollah Abtahi became the classmate of the late Kashani’s only pupil, Sayyed Abdolkarim Hasheminezhad. They were together until the late Hasheminezhad’s martyrdom, cooperated with him in struggling against Shah’s regime, and in promoting Islam among the society. They were on the same ideas in the political, scientific, and Islamic matters. He married with ayatollah Abtahi’s sister, and ayatollah Abtahi married with his sister as well. The late martyr Hasheminezhad ascended pulpits and due to his rough lectures against both Shah’s ill policies and the oppressor government of that time, the security and information organization arrested and imprisoned him. In objection to his imprisonment, a number of the people who had gathered in front of Fil mosque were killed by the regime. The regime wanted to blame the late Hasheminezhad for those people’s being killed, but ayatollah Sayyed Hassan Abtahi wittingly but secretly prepared a letter in twelve copies signed by one thousand people. The content of the letter was as follows: “We were the witness that Mr. Hasheminezhad was talking the people to control their anger, but the chief of police and sheriff shot at the people and killed them”. Consequently, the late Hasheminezhad was released after three months, but the chief of police and sheriff were dismissed.

Self-purification and getting acquainted with the late Haj Molla Aghajan Zanjani:

Ayatollah Abtahi’s father was a spiritual man who resorted to Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him). He was so particular to bring up his only son (at that time) in a highly spiritual manner. He encouraged his son, even in early years, to purify himself from vices. He tried the best to train his son and from the early ages, he always talked about Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) and emphasized on the issue of self-purification as an essential factor for the imminence to Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) and for assisting him. So he encouraged him to purify the spiritual vices in a way that at the age of sixteen, based on what has been written in the book “The soul’s ascension”, ayatollah Abtahi met ayatollah Koohestani, and then he met one of the saints, Haj Sheikh Mahmood Atiq, known as Haj Molla Aghajan Zanjani and became their pupil.

The late Haj Molla Aghajan Zanjani was his spiritual instructor for four years in the realm of self-purification, spiritual advancements, and essential learning concerning Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him). The late Haj Molla Aghajan addressed him to the spiritual scholars such as the late ayatollah Hekmat, the late ayatollah Mostafavi, the late ayatollah Haj Mirza Taghi Zargari, and the late ayatollah Nasiri, and because of his instructors’ advices, he put efforts on studying the lessons of Jurisprudence and Fundamentals, and in Moharram, Safar, and in the holy month of Ramadhan (Lunar), as a common practice among the religious scholars, he delivered lectures about Islam so well that in 1962, his lectures were among the most famous ones in Tehran. In the 15^th of Khordad 1341 (12^th of Moharram/ June 6, 1963), as commanded by ayatollah Khomeini, he gave fascinating inspiring lecture on crimes of Shah’s regime and was chased for his speech and was banned to give any lecture.

Due to a moral story, ayatollah Abtahi promised himself to preach Islam to everybody free of charge. On such a basis, even now, his speeches and lectures are free of charge as in holy Quran, the almighty God advises the prophets and the preachers not to ask for money for what they say since such an attitude will help their teachings be more impressive and effectual.

Due to the significant role of self-purification, ayatollah Haj Sayyed Hassan Abtahi has classified this Islamic concept and has emphasized seven stages for self-purification. His pupils are under the commitment to stay in each stage and practice that stage for a period of time that is up to their spiritual levels. The result is that after completing the seven stages of self-purification, they find themselves free from spiritual impurities or vices and they enjoy a soul purified enough to find way into spiritual advancements, to touch the realities, and to keep closer to God. He has made many efforts in this regard and has trained some instructors in most big cities of Iran, and has held meetings for training and explaining the stages of self-purification. It must be mentioned that the books “Moving towards God” and “In the presence of instructor 1 & 2 “ have specifically been written in this respect. Ayatollah Abtahi’s pupils have also written many books concerning self-purification. Tens of the pupils who have completed the seven stages, as commanded by their instructor, have written their dissertations pertaining to self-purification and have pointed out excellent issues too. Some of those superb dissertations were published with ayatollah Abtahi’s allowance.

As a conclusion, the experiences have proven that this innovation for self-purification as an essential Islamic duty is one of the most important and valuable spiritual psychological issues that had even been regarded by the experts and the university professors of many countries.

Ayatollah Abtahi’s instructors in theological subjects:

Ayatollah Abtahi learned Arabic literature from the late Adib Neishaboori and Sheikh Rahmatollah Fesharaki, the explanation of Lome’h Ma’alem from the late Modarres Yazdi in Mashad, the rules of Islamic Fundamentals from Imam Musa Sadr, Rasael and Makaseb from the late ayatollah Sheikh Jawad Khandaghabadi, Kefayatol Osul from the late ayatollah Haj Sayyed Reza Sadr and the late ayatollah Sultani in Qum.

Ayatollah Abtahi learned Jurisprudence from the late ayatollah Boroojerdi and the late ayatollah Shariatmadari, and the Islamic Fundamentals from ayatollah Khomeini and ayatollah Damaad in Qum. In Najaf, he attended the jurisprudence classes of the late ayatollah Sayyed Abdolhadi Shirazi and ayatollah Haj Sheikh Mahmood Shahroodi. His instructors in Islamic Fundamentals were the late ayatollah Khoee and ayatollah Bojnoordi.

Ayatollah Abtahi’s instructors in Philosophy and Mysticism:

Ayatollah Sayyed Hassan Abtahi learned philosophy and mysticism from the late Allameh Tabatabaee and the late ayatollah Haj Sheikh Bagher Torki. His instructor in Rejaal and Ansaab was the late ayatollah Maraashi Najafi.

He taught in advanced levels in the Theological Schools of Mashad and Qum and since 1971, he began teaching Jurisprudence, Islamic Fundamentals, and Divine Hekmat (Divine wisdom).

Ayatollah Abtahi’s pupils:

Right now thousands of people are attending his classes and are purifying themselves and some of them are studying in theological schools.
However, a few of his pupils finished the self-purification stages and are moving in the track of Spiritual Advancements. Along with the theological degrees, some of them got their PHDS and B.S., and have written some books. For acknowledging their efforts, some of them are introduced here:  

1.     1- Hojjatol-Islam Sayyed Jafar Rafiee, the top pupil of Mashad and Qum Theological schools. He got his B.A. in Islamic Sciences. He has authorized several books and among which fifteen books have been published.

1.    2-  Hojjatol-Islam Mr. Alireza Ne’mati, editor of “Sun of Mecca” magazine. He has B.A. in Islamic Sciences and is the author of several books.

1.    3 - Mr. Mohammad Hassan Ganji Fard, B.A. in Theology, and the author of several books.

1.   4 -  Mr. Sayyed Jawad Moallem, the author of several books and the instructor of Mashad’s Theological school. He is one of the instructors of self-purification in Mashad.

1.    5- Hojjatol-Islam Haj Sheikh Kazem Kashani is one of the scholars and authors in Qum Theological School.

1.    6-  Hojjatol-Islam Mr. Ahmad Masoodi has degree in Agricultural engineering and is the author of several books in Islamic concepts.

1.    7-  Mr. Haj Haani Morshed is the author. He got his B.A. in Accounting and Business Management from L.A. USA.

1.    8-Mrs. Sayyedeh Tahereh Pourrahnama, B.A. in Sociology and Elementary Education. She has authorized several books in Islamic concepts.

1.   9-  Mrs. Hajieeh Haddad (Asgarian), the virtuous generous person who is a self-purification instructor and is the author of several books in explanation of Quran and Hadith.

1.   10-   Mr. Ali Sobhani, B.A. in English Language, is the citizen of Canada and is ayatollah Abtahi’s representative in Canada.

1.    11- Mrs. Sahba Bagheri, B.A. in English Translation, is the citizen of Canada and is the translator of several books such as “The soul’s Ascension” and “The spiritual path towards Allah”.

The holy Mashad

The virtue of the holy shrine of Imam Ali Ibne Musa al-Reza (peace be upon him) has made Mashad as one of the best cities of the world. A single pilgrimage to his holy shrine equals to the performance of one thousand times accepted Hajj pilgrimage

The holy Mashad is the place through which the prophets (p.b.u.a), the infallibles (p.b.u.a), the angels, and the saints pass. It is one of the most ancient cities of Iran that had been regarded by the people all over the world. Everyone has the wish of going on pilgrimage to this holy city. This has always been ayatollah Abtahi’s pride and honor to be from holy Mashad.

Ayatollah Abtahi’s books:

Ayatollah Sayyed Hassan Abtahi has written more than fifty books, most of them are trying to solve the logical, ideological, and philosophical problems. Many of his books have been translated into different languages and have been published for many times. Some of his books are published twice a year. His books have been welcomed by those who are interested in learning and knowledge. (The details of his books are available in the list of his books at homepage of this website).

He has translated Qur’an into Persian in such a way that is easily understandable by everyone. Because the lovers of Qur’an were eagerly waiting for this translation, and before its publication, it was divided into many pamphlets for his pupils. They were particular to read 30 verses every week on a daily practice. This helped them in understanding the meanings and in improving their recitation skills. In weekly sessions, those practiced verses of Qur’an were brought forth for discussion. This program took two years and a half, and thousands of his pupils had the honor to study these pamphlets. It improved their skills in recitation and understanding of holy Qur’an at the same time that they were practicing the stages of self-purification. At last the translation of holy Qur’an was finished. It was then published and distributed among the people who respected Quran and also among the high-ranking persons. To respect holy Qur’an, he refrained from putting it up for sale. The pupils are going to complete the third review of Qur’an. They are following a weekly regular program to read 20 verses of Quran verses and its translation everyday. They also read the interpretations that ayatollah Abtahi has written below each set of holy verses. The analysis of the holy verses has been made for those holy verses that are concerning the “self-purification” and “Ethics”. Thousands of people enjoy this program and stay closer to the truth of Qur’an.

His honor has recently authorized three books on the issue of the questions concerning the stages of self-purification and has named them as the second, third, and fourth volumes of the book “Seir-e-elallah” (The spiritual path towards Allah).

Ayatollah Abtahi has trained many pupils and the least commitment that each of them carry is never to do any sin and is to perform their obligatory duties properly and on time. These pupils, including both men and women, exceed four thousands in number and he has each of them under his full control. Considering their spiritual levels, he provides them with the needed advices and fortunately, the pupils welcome his advices in such a way that among the pupils, there is not even a man to shave his beard or to smoke cigarette. In a similar way, there is no woman without full Hijab. Before learning any other field of science, the women are particular about learning the most essential Islamic duty that is the learning of Islamic ethics and self-purification. They go deep into these fields of learning and then employ it in the practical aspects. Both the men and the women are preparing themselves to assist Islam, to devote themselves for the beloved Imam Mahdi (our souls be devoted for him), and to attain the Almighty God.

The Authors’ International United Institution that has been established according to the French legislation number 1901 issued the honorary PhD for ayatollah Abtahi for his valuable works and innovations particularly on the issues concerning Imam Mahdi (Mahdaviat).

Ayatollah Abtahi has a lot of innovations in his books related to spirituality and the books about Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) such as the book “The hidden peacemaker” that has been translated into Arabic and other languages.

In the year 2000, Dr. Asaad-Ali, the principal and the professor of Damascus University, invited ayatollah Abtahi to receive his honorary PhD for his innovations.

In 2002, after three years delay, ayatollah Abtahi left for Damascus that was the closest institution to receive his PhD and was welcomed by the professors of Damascus University

He is 47 years old now who has finished the courses of Jurisprudence and Islamic Fundamentals. After the Islamic revolution of Iran, he has had the following titles:

The head of Mashad radio station, the head of Shiraz Broadcast station , the vice-president in International affairs in the Islamic ministry of guidance and culture, the Iranian deputy manager of IRIB in Lebanon, the head office of the respected president of Iran, Mr. Khatami, the president’s deputy in the law and parliamentary affairs, the founder and the manager of  “Religions’ Dialogues Institute”.

1.       2-   Hojjatol-Islam Haj Sayyed Mohammad Taqi Abtahi, a learned scholar and B.A. in Islamic Sciences and the manager of Batha' Publication.

1.    3-The respected expert, Mr. Sayyed Hussein Abtahi.

Ayatollah Abtahi’s brother:

After the departure of ayatollah Abtahi’s mother, he himself managed for his respected father’s marriage that resulted in three children that were two girls and the third child was a boy. Ayatollah Abtahi’s brother’s name is Hojjatol-Islam Mr. Sayyed Kazem Abtahi. After finishing the elementary education, he entered the Theological school in Mashad and Qum and he is now one of the experts and scholars of the Theological school in Qum.
